The sea test site of the Ste-Anne-du-Portzic, is placed in the immediate vicinity of the Ifremer research center of Brest, in France. This marine concession granted by the French maritime authorities since 1970 is used for long-term physical, chemical and biological monitoring of the sea water in the Brest bay by means of the COAST-HF MAREL Iroise data buoy and the SOMLIT network. It has also been historically used to test the ageing of materials in sea water, considering corrosion and biofouling, to develop aquaculture nets and oceanographic sensors.
Marine Renewable Energy prototypes are tested in the small-scale test site of Ste-Anne du Portzic since 2013, with the trials of the PMH wave energy buoy, in partnership with Geps Techno, followed by the Eolink floating offshore wind turbine in 2018. More recently, the WindQuest vertical-axis wind turbine developed by Hydroquest was tested in 2021, and the DIKWE wave energy converter developed by Legendre and Geps Techno started in 2022.
